Title Title

No offense for anyone for what it says on the poll.

Bamboo Grove Final Post

#1 How did you respond to the ending of the story? I thought the ending was not that good because it just ended right when Yoko finds Hideyo. It didn't even actually say if Ko saw Hideyo. When we were reading in the class, I thought there was more to it than that. I thought that Yoko would tell the horrifying news that there mother is dead. Explain what conflicts got resolved, and what issues remain unresolved for the Kawashima family. The conflicts that got resolved is that Yoko met up with Hideyo and Yoko got money for food. The unresolved conflicts are a place to live, shoes, clothes, and there missing father. Why do you think Yoko chose to end the book there? I think that Yoko decided to end the book there because there might be nothing left to talk or write about or maybe he forgot what happened after she met up with Hideyo.
#2 I think they do this because they want us to learn about the Japanese customs. I think they wanted to do this because they have seen how lucky they really are to survive through that and remember all the good and bad things that they went through. I would have tried to be as close as possible to it because other people will learn about it.
#3 The character I admire the most is Hideyo because he survived through alot of things being smart and resourceful. He survived the Korean Communists Army when they attacked the factory that Hideyo was working in. He was even willing to risk everything even his life for just a chance to see his own family again. He was even smart hiding in the tree when the Korean Communist Army was right under him. He was also smart hiding underwater when he was crossing the thirty eighth parallel.
#4 I learned that the Koreans killed who ever refused to join the army and rapes any young woman they found during the war. I learned that they already had atomic bombs back then. I still want to learn how Hideyo's reaction to his mothers death, and Ko's reaction for seeing Hideyo again. I want to learn how Yoko had that bruise or cut on her chest and how that metal piece got in her right ear.
#5 I learned how cruel humans can actually be when I read the novel. I also learned how tough and unfair life can be. Or maybe what an average kid can actually do. For example Yoko. She won an essay contest for 10,000 yen. Any student in my school or at least the students I know that are in my school won't even bother writing a word or 2. I think you should never underestimate anyone even if you know they can't do that. They might not be able to do that, but maybe that person could even do better than you.

OP#4

#1 I think Yoko wants to help Mr.Naido because she wants to get a new pair of shoes. I also think that she wants to help Mr.Naido because she wants to help Mr.Naido how to speak clearly without stuttering. Yoko helps Mr.Naido by giving Mr.Naido cans, and helping him how to speak better. They both sort of are outcasts. Like they have abandoned from the world because of one single incident.

#2 Yoko thought that Ko was doing school work because Ko was late. But when Yoko found Ko shining someones shoes to get something nice for New Years. Yoko saw that Ko was willing to sacrifice so much to get decent meal for New Years.

#3 Why do you think that Ko was willing to sacrifice so much for a decent meal?

My answer: I think she wanted to sacrifice so much because she wanted to have a decent meal because they hadn't had a decent meal in a long time and its a holiday also.

OP#3

#1a. I think that they had to leave immediately because of the Korean Communist Army and that Ko saw a Korean Communist raping a young girl. The family also thinks that its alot safer in Japan.

#1b. I think that they did the right thing by abandoning Hideyo in Korea. So they can stay alive and be safe in Japan. But It is kind of mean. Picturing Hideyo walking all the way to Seoul and finds out that his family left him instead of waiting. But if they stayed and waited they would have been killed by the Koreans and Hideyo will find there bodies slaughtered all over the place. I would have left Hideyo signs of where to go next. But I would have wrote it in Japanese so the Koreans are unable to read it.

#2 Why didn't Hideyo's friends go with him on the way to Seoul?

OP#1

1. Yoko is nice because she gave her rucksack to the new brother and the new born. She is kind of impatient because in the train she coulnd't wait to eat. Until her mom stopped her and explained.

2. Yoko and Ko look they have a strong relationship between them as sisters. Yoko calls Ko bossy because Ko kinds of tells Yoko what to do most of the times. Yoko was starting to hate Ko for going ahead while they were crossing the railroad.

3. The Kawashima family seemed like they felt bad for the patients on the train. So they shared there supplies with the patients on the train. Thats why Ko and Yoko shared their blankets with the patients.

Title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Author: Rick Riordan

Date: 11-16-07

Total Pages Read: 157 pages

Time: About 3 1/2 hours

Pages: 137-294

Response Question; What does this book make you wonder about? Why?

This book makes me wonder a lot of things. But the thing that this book makes me wonder the most is what will happen next. You might never know what will happen. He might turn evil, or she might save the day. It will always make you wonder. Since this is the first book of the series, anything can happen. So if anything can happen you might never know until you read it. You might be amazed, happy, or sad, who knows. So that is what this book makes me wonder.

So far in the book, Percy Jackson has fought a huge Minotaur, discovered his friend Grover was a satyr, his Latin teacher was a centaur( half man half horse), and there is a huge camp named CAMP HALF-BLOOD for kids that have Greek Gods as their mom or dad. He made a friend named Luke and later on his friend Luke was evil all along and had several attempts to kill Percy Jackson.

I would read another book from this author because Rick Riordan has a nice storyline and characters. I also like the suspense he makes because you don't really know what will happen next.

Project Reflection

Name: JP Aquino

Project Reflection

Project Title: Family History Project

Class: Humanities Date: 10-17-07

PURPOSE
In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.

In order to learn about Mt. Pinatubo, we had to create a narrative about the event. Then interview a person in your family that experienced the event. Revise a writing entry for a personal narrative. Research about the event on the Internet or from a book. Then site the source from where you got it. Then make it into a scrapbook or a newsletter for the final product.

WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.

I learned about Mt. Pinatubo , how it erupted, when it erupted, and how the eruption affected the community in Luzon, Philippines. In this project , I learned how to take good notes so the person you are interviewing doesn't have to repeat anything they said.

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. Did you like the project? Why or why not? How did you do? What would you do differently next time?

The part that enjoyed during this project was when we presented our work to the parents. I feel like I could have done better on this project because I think I could have done more and added a few more pictures to my final product. Next time, I would try to have at least more than half a page of information, and at least 4 pictures about the event.

ARTIFACTS
You should have at least one artifact from each project on your DP. What document, picture, or link will you have for this project?

A picture of the ash cloud from Mt. Pinatubo. I would have brought more artifacts but we left it in my grandparents house in the Philippines.

The Wave OP#5

#2 The sentence that stood out to me was " I certainly became more of a leader that then i intended to be" It stands out to me because lots of people can take things too far without noticing. I do that sometimes, mostly when I'm distracted or in a bad mood.

#3 What do you think Robert will do next?

Who's Commented on Op#3?

Ben= 1
Carly= 1
Danielle= 1

The Wave OP#4

#1 I think that Ben is feeling like The Wave is getting out of hand. Most of the teachers are getting upset and so are the parents. Some students are also taking this way too seriously.

#2 The sentence that stood out o me was " If they're The Wave, we could be The Ripple" I chose this because it sounded funny and it shows how jealous they are of The Wave and how useless they think The Wave is.

#3 If you were in Mr. Ross's class and no one else knows except you and your class, would you tell people about it? Why or why not?

The Wave Op#3

#1 The two clues that I saw is that some kids are actually cutting class so they can go to Ben's class. Most of the school wants to join. Even if they are in a lower grade or higher grade.

#2 The line that jumped out to me the most was "Around the room students jumped to attention beside their desks and gave The Wave salute. Strength through discipline, strength through community, strength through action" I chose this long line because it shows how interested, curious, and dedicated they are to The Wave.

#3 Do you really think that in a couple months no one will even remember about The Wave? "quote form Mrs.Saunders" and Why or Why not?

The Wave#2

#1 The Waves motto "Strength through discipline, Strength through community" spread through school because of the football team. It affected David the most because he thought the football team needs it so their team can finally win a game.

#2 The line that stood out to me was "Maybe you're becoming a guinea pig in your own experiment" That line stood out to me because when it sounds like a joke its really a warning. I can sort of tell because most people I know do that.

#3 Do you think The Wave is effecting the school in anyway?

Thursday, September 27, 2007

The Wave OP #1

1.The Wave is in a high school in Palo Alto, California. At 1969.

B.One of the things I saw that make me think it was in 1969 was Ben had to go to the library instead of just using a computer to look it up. They also have typewriters and Amy was smoking without getting caught. If you were smoking you will get caught right away. The difference from our schools and others are that we don't have school bells because the teachers trust we will be there on time. Plus we have these real cool projects.

2.The sentence that jumped out to me was "The team's pretty disorganized" The reason I could relate to that is because when you are disorganized its hard to find things. When you are organized its real easy to find stuff.

Betty Ann

Response #1

The saddest part in the story for me was when they laughed about the Queen of England and the watermelons. Its kind of sad because there laughing at what you wrote. For example you can make a piece of art. It makes the news then you show it to the entire world and the whole world ends up laughing.

Response #2

The point where I would have said something was when the narrator said Margie's life was as exciting as the metric system after she just said her life was as insecure and as homely as the rest of them.

Response #3

I think the moral of the story is you cant fix your mistakes you make in life. So make the right choice while you still can.

Seventh Grade

Response #1
The sentence that stood out to me was "Frenchie oh wewe gee in September" because it was hilarious. It also shows that Victor has not been studying french.

Response #2
The part that really connected to me is kind of the beginning of the school year. It connects to me because in the beginning of the school year you are nervous because you might not like your new teachers or you are wondering if you are in your friends class. Then you live through it, and the next thing you know is school is over.

Test

Response #1

The sentence that really stood out to me was well actually about 2 sentences was "Just before he lost consciousness he heard the scream stop , and he knew then that he had been hearing a single, short lived scream that had only seemed to drag on and on. There came a painless wrench, and then darkness. I chose it because it made me think what happened, what will happen next.

Response #2

There is a little bit of both because its wrong to control people with hypnosis. Its good because we wouldn't want a menace on the road either.I mostly think we shouldn't use hypnosis because it might change your life for ever.

Response #3

I would interpret the phrase "How do any of us know?" because they wanted to play with his head. They dont want him to know about the hypnosis. Since the test has gone wrong they think they might get arrested.

Planet Earth

Today we watched a movie in class called planet earth. It was about plains, grass, tundras, monkeys, snow geese, and other stuff. So we had to take notes. Grass covers about 1/4 of the earth. Elephant grass got its name from being as tall as elephants. There were 6 million bison now its one thousand because hunters were hunting them. Elephants arent good at night because there eyesights arent as good as the lions at night. One full grown elephant can feed a pack of lions for a week. Compared to other wild pigs the Pygmy are the smallest.

The Sea of Monsters

My favorite book is The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. Its about a kid who discovers he has these powers who he inherited from his father, Poisedon. When Thalia's tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magic item powerful to save the camp before it is overrun by monsters.
